The prior of the Semana Santa Marinera, Juan Pons; the president of the Junta Mayor, Carles Genís, and the councillors Aarón Cano, Emiliano García, Santiago Ballester, Amparo Picó, José Gozálbez and Vicente Montañés, presided over the inauguration of the Poster Competition exhibition on the afternoon of 11 January at the Museo de la Semana Santa Marinera de València “Salvador Caurín”.
The exhibition brings together the 48 posters submitted for the competition in which the 2023 poster will be chosen, with a large number of entries, as Genís pointed out at the opening. This exhibition kicks off the activities marking the arrival of Easter Week. According to Gil-Manuel Hernández, the Museum’s director, the exhibition, which has become an annual ritual, can be said to be a “crida a la festa”, since that is the function of the posters. For his part, councillor Emiliano García, who addressed the attendees on behalf of the City Council of Valencia, stressed that the Semana Santa Marinera is a “festival that is the backbone of the Maritime neighbourhoods”, with the involvement of all the brotherhoods throughout the year. He also noted the “capacity and creativity of the artists who combine avant-garde and tradition” in their proposals.
Also present at the event were Pep Martorell and Begoña Sorolla, former presidents of the Junta Mayor; Antonio Gallart, manager of the Cabanyal-Canymelar Plan; Julián Carabantes, president of the group of fallas of the Marítimo; Francisco Esteve, president of Amics del Corpus; Francisco Fenoll, president of the Association of Moors and Christians of the Marítimo, and Esteban González, representative of the San Vicente Ferrer Festivities. And, of course, representatives of the brotherhoods, confraternities and corporations.
The winning poster will be announced on 17 January at the General Assembly of the Junta Mayor de la Semana Santa, and will be disseminated through the media and social networks. The jury, which will meet on the 16th, is made up of the prior of Easter Week, the president of the Junta Mayor, a representative of the Department of Festive Culture of the City Council of Valencia, two professors from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, a representative of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Valencia, a representative of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Valencia, and a representative of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Valencia, one representative of the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny, two university professors or lecturers in Fine Arts, one representative of the Designers’ Association of the Valencian Community, one representative of the Photographers’ Association of Valencia and two delegates from the Junta Mayor Assembly.
